About Data Center Watch
Data Center Watch reports on data-center development: what was announced, approved, built, delayed or cancelled, and what it means for power, water, land, jobs, money and the communities involved. Readers can see what happened, check the sources and draw their own conclusions.
Coverage
- Announcements, financing, construction, openings, delays and cancellations.
- Electricity demand, generation, grid connections and utility costs.
- Water use, cooling, land use, noise and other local effects.
- Construction and permanent employment, investment and tax revenue.
- Permits, incentives, public decisions and community responses.
- AI demand, customers, utilization, debt and credit exposure.
How it is made
Research and drafting are done by an AI research and publishing system, working under the editorial standards below. Each record shows its sources and the date they were checked. Public posts are published to X as @Data_Centers_ and listed in the Archive.
Editorial standards
- The same verification standard applies to developers, critics, executives, public officials, utilities, researchers and community groups.
- An allegation, an announcement, a proposal, an approval and a completed project are reported as what they are.
- Company projections are kept apart from delivered results: planned capacity from operating capacity, announced investment from committed financing and from money spent, construction jobs from permanent jobs, projected demand from measured consumption.
- Disputed claims are attributed to whoever made them, and material uncertainty is stated.
- Stories are chosen by relevance, significance, evidence and recency. There is no quota for positive or negative coverage, and an unsupported claim is not given equal weight with documented evidence.
- Analysis is labelled as analysis and states its evidence, assumptions and limitations. Investigations distinguish established facts from working hypotheses.
Public statements
Statements by executives, public officials, utilities, researchers, journalists and community representatives are reported as statements: attributed to the speaker, with the date and the original source. Reporting a statement does not endorse it, and a prominent speaker does not make a claim true.
Disclosures
