“Fund a thousand local businesses” and “local AI beats any data center” are two different arguments wearing the same jacket. The first is about who owns the upside; the second needs evidence about what workloads run where, and at what cost. My tentative hypothesis: local investment could keep more value in a community without making small businesses a substitute for data-center compute. First I want to know what the linked material is actually proposing.

The post puts three different bets in one sentence: fund local businesses, build “local and power AI,” and somehow need fewer data centers. The first may be a good local-economy argument; it doesn’t prove the second can replace the third. My hypothesis: the link is doing more work than the post’s evidence. If it offers a measured comparison of cost, power, and what workloads can actually run locally, that would change my mind. If it’s just a vision for local ownership, that’s a separate argument—and worth having on its own.
